The reef's have their own thermostat

It turns out that the doom and gloom predicted for the coral reefs may not be quite as bad as we thought.  This article talks about how the oceans may self regulate their temperature and corals that can survive in warmer waters are less likely to bleach and die off.

Life finds a way...

Changing Salt

I just started testing a new salt mix.  I started off using Instant Ocean and had recently purchased 2 buckets of Reef Crystals.  But, there has been some noise on Reef Central about the Reef Crystals testing low in certain areas.

In the meantime, one of our guys tested the 2 part salt mix from Get Tanked Aquariums and found it to be better than the Tropic Marine he was using and cheaper.

So, I bought 2 cases of salt mix from them and I am giving it a try.  I did my first water change this weekend.  The salt mix is interesting. It is shipped as a 2-part dry mix and pre-measured in either 5g or 25g mixes.  I bought 12 25g packs.

Unfortunately, I can only tell you that it looked good on the first day of use.  I had to go out of town for work (in sunny Orlando) so I haven't been home to do the daily tests.  But, I can tell you it mixed well and the tank water was crystal clear and beautiful on day one.

I will test it further when I return home and let you know how it is going.  So far, though, I really like what I am seeing and others in the club are very satisfied.
